Alright, so everyone’s been buzzing about that Pokemon Fendi crossover. Looked pretty slick, gotta admit. But then I saw the price tags, and, well, my bank account basically laughed in my face. So, I got this idea, a bit of a wild hair, you know? Why not try and make my own Fendi-inspired Pokemon gear? Seemed like a fun weekend project. Famous last words, right?
Scrounging for Supplies – Easier Said Than Done
First off, getting the right materials was a mission in itself. I had this vision, you see. Pikachu yellow, but make it Fendi. That specific, classy, not-too-bright yellow. Good luck finding that off the shelf. I must’ve hit up five different craft stores. Ended up having to buy a couple of fabrics and hoping one would look okay. And don’t even get me started on trying to find something that could mimic that Fendi logo style without, you know, actually being a counterfeit. Ended up deciding to just hint at it, keep it subtle, ’cause I wasn’t about to get into any trouble over a DIY project.
- Spent what felt like ages hunting for that perfect yellow fabric.
- Debated with myself for a solid hour in one store about whether a certain gold thread was too tacky or just right.
- Almost gave up entirely when I couldn’t find a decent quality zipper that didn’t look cheap. That was a whole afternoon wasted.
Getting My Hands Dirty – The Crafting Chaos
Then came the actual making part. I decided to try and customize a plain black backpack I had lying around. Thought it’d be straightforward. Ha! Sketching out a Charizard – because Charizard is just iconic – in a way that felt a bit more ‘high fashion’ than ‘kids cartoon’ took me forever. My first few attempts looked more like a confused lizard. Seriously. My little workspace, usually pretty tidy, looked like a bomb had hit it. Fabric scraps everywhere, threads all over the place, and I think I even got some paint on the rug. Oops.
There were moments, definitely a few, where I just wanted to chuck the whole thing in the bin and order a pizza. I remember spending nearly three hours just trying to get the appliqué stitches for one of Charizard’s wings to look somewhat neat. My fingers were absolutely killing me by the end of it. Patience isn’t always my best friend when things get super detailed, but I’d already sunk too much time into it to quit. Plus, I’d already bragged to my friends I was making something cool.
The Grand Unveiling… Sort Of
So, after all that faffing about, what did I actually end up with? Well, it’s definitely… one-of-a-kind. It’s not going to be gracing any runways, let me tell you. The Charizard is a little lopsided if you look too closely, and the ‘Fendi-inspired’ elements are probably only truly visible to me and my overactive imagination. But you know what? I’m actually pretty chuffed with it. It’s got personality. It’s my “Pokemon Fendi-esque” creation, a testament to my sheer stubbornness more than anything else.
It’s a bit rough around the edges, maybe a lot rough, but every time I use that backpack, I get a little kick out of it. And it cost me next to nothing in terms of cash, just a weekend of my life and possibly a few brain cells. Would I attempt another fashion DIY of this scale? Hmm, ask me in a month. For now, I think I’ll stick to admiring the real deal from a safe distance. Or maybe I’ll just stick some Pokemon patches on something else. Way easier.
