My Little Adventure with Paris Themed Party Clothes
Alright, so I got this invite a while back. Paris Themed Party. My first reaction? A slight panic, honestly. What does that even mean for clothes? My mind immediately jumped to the clichés – you know, striped shirts, maybe a beret? Felt a bit like putting on a costume, which isn’t really my style.
So, I started where I always do: my own closet. Dug through everything. Pulled out a couple of striped tops I owned, but one was kinda worn out, the other just didn’t feel right. Had a few black dresses and skirts. Okay, maybe something there? But nothing screamed “Paris” to me, not even subtly. It all felt a bit forced trying to make my existing stuff fit this theme I wasn’t even sure about.
Decided I had to actually find something specific. Wasn’t looking to spend a ton of money, though. First stop, I hit up a couple of my favorite thrift stores. You never know what gems you’ll find, right? Scored a pretty decent black blazer on my second try. Looked kinda sharp, felt like a good base. Still, needed more.
I thought about online shopping, browsed a bit, but you can’t really tell how things fit or feel from a picture. So, I ended up just wandering through a big department store, mostly looking for inspiration. Didn’t find much fancy stuff appealing. Then I saw this really simple, kinda elegant black shift dress. Nothing flashy, but it looked versatile. Grabbed that. On my way out, spotted a rack of scarves and picked up a plain red one. Felt kinda Frenchy, you know?
Putting It All Together
Back home, it was time for the try-on session. Laid out the pieces:
- The new black dress
- The thrifted black blazer
- The red scarf
- Some simple black heels I already owned
Put it all on. Stood in front of the mirror. Okay, it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t exactly shouting “Paris!”, but it felt… sophisticated? Ish? Definitely decided against hunting down a beret – just too much for me. The blazer added some structure, the scarf a pop of color. It felt more like hinting at the theme than hitting people over the head with it.
Went to the party in that outfit. Felt pretty comfortable, actually. Saw a few people fully decked out in stripes and berets, which was kinda fun to see. My outfit felt understated in comparison, which I preferred. Someone complimented the scarf, which was nice. Did it perfectly capture the “Paris theme”? Who knows. Probably not. But it worked. It was clothes, for a party. Was all the running around worth it? Hard to say. It’s just an outfit. Maybe next time I’ll just wear all black and tell people it’s “minimalist chic”. Less hassle.
