Alright, so I finally got around to really looking at the YSL Fall 2024 stuff. Heard the buzz, you know, saw some pictures popping up here and there. Decided it was time to actually sit down and see what Anthony Vaccarello cooked up this time.

First thing I did was just scroll through a bunch of the runway photos online. Took me a while, just clicking through, getting a feel for it. Then I found a video of the actual show and let that play. It’s always different seeing the clothes move, right?
First Impressions
Okay, the big thing everyone’s talking about: sheer. Yeah, there was a LOT of it. Like, really sheer. Tops, dresses, skirts… basically see-through everything. It looked dramatic on the runway, super sleek and all that. Dark lighting, models gliding by… very chic, very Parisian night vibe.
But my first thought was, honestly? Where is anyone actually wearing this stuff? I mean, unless you’re going to some super exclusive, dimly lit party or you’re a celebrity on a red carpet. For everyday life? Not so much, at least not for me. Maybe layering could work? Put something underneath? But that kind of defeats the purpose of the super sheer look they were going for, doesn’t it?
Digging into the Details
So after the initial shock of all the transparency, I started looking closer at the other pieces. What else was there?
- The tailoring: Gotta say, the jackets and coats were sharp. Really nice shoulders, clean lines. That’s classic YSL, and they nailed that part. Those felt more wearable, more real-world.
- The colors: Mostly dark, which isn’t surprising for Fall or for YSL. Black, some deep browns, olive greens. Moody. Felt very consistent.
- The vibe: It felt very… controlled. Very sleek, very much sticking to that specific sexy, slightly severe aesthetic Vaccarello’s known for.
I spent some time just staring at the construction of some pieces. Even the sheer stuff, you could tell it was well-made, draped just so. But still, the practicality kept nagging at me. It felt like a collection designed more for the image, for the photos, than for actual people living actual lives.

Final Thoughts
So, yeah. I looked through it all. Watched the show. Thought about it. It’s definitely a statement. Very YSL in its current form. Polished, sexy, maybe a little intimidating. I liked the sharp tailoring bits the best, those felt strong and timeless.
The sheer overload? Eh. It’s a look, for sure. Bold. But maybe a bit repetitive after seeing it on so many outfits? Felt like less of a surprise as the show went on. It’s memorable, I’ll give it that. Just not sure how much of it will trickle down into something I’d actually consider putting on. Still interesting to see what they’re doing, though. Always keeps you looking.
