Alright, let me tell you about my “Resident Evil x Reader” writing adventure!
So, it all started with me being a HUGE “Resident Evil” fan, like, obsessed! And I also really dig those “x Reader” stories, you know, where you imagine yourself in the game, romancing your fave character or just kicking zombie butt alongside them? I thought, “Why not try writing one myself?” Sounded like a fun way to spend my evenings.
First thing I did was brainstorm a bunch of scenarios. I scribbled down ideas on anything I could find – sticky notes, receipts, even the back of my hand at one point! I wanted something more than just a simple ‘meet cute’ with Leon or Chris. I was aiming for real danger, real tension, and a story that felt like it could actually fit into the “Resident Evil” universe.
Then came the character selection. I was torn! Chris Redfield’s dependable nature? Leon Kennedy’s rookie charm? Or maybe someone a little more on the villainous side, like Wesker (if you’re into that kind of thing, no judgement!). Ultimately, I went with Leon. Something about the rookie cop vibe just felt right for the story I was imagining.
Next, I had to nail down the plot. I wanted to place the reader right in the thick of things, maybe during the Raccoon City outbreak. I rewatched “Resident Evil 2” (the remake, of course, gotta have those updated graphics!), taking notes on the atmosphere, the dialogue, and the pacing. I wanted to capture that sense of dread and desperation. I started outlining the story chapter by chapter, thinking about key scenes, character interactions, and those all-important action sequences.
Then the real fun began: Writing! I sat down at my laptop, fingers poised over the keyboard, and just started typing. The first draft was rough, I’m not gonna lie. Dialogue was clunky, descriptions were vague, and the plot felt a bit all over the place. But I kept going. I reminded myself that it was just a first draft and that I could always revise later.
I wrote a lot at night, with the game music playing in the background. Sounds corny, I know, but it really helped me get into the mood. The hardest part was keeping the Reader character, well, a character. You don’t want them to be a total blank slate! I gave them a personality, a backstory, and some fears and motivations. Made them feel real.
After I finished the first draft, I stepped away from it for a few days. Then, I came back with fresh eyes and started editing. I cut out unnecessary scenes, added more descriptive details, and polished the dialogue. I also asked a couple of my friends who are also “Resident Evil” fans to read it and give me feedback. Their insights were super helpful!
I revised and edited a bunch more times. Eventually, I felt like the story was finally ready to share. I posted it online (on a fanfiction site, of course!), and waited nervously for the reactions. I was pleasantly surprised! People actually seemed to enjoy it! I got some really nice comments and even some constructive criticism that helped me improve my writing.
It wasn’t easy, and it took a lot of time and effort, but seeing the positive feedback made it all worthwhile. I’m already working on a sequel!
