Okay, so the other day I was messing around, and I had this idea: what if I could pit two of Hollywood’s biggest Ryans against each other? I’m talking about Ryan Reynolds and Ryan Gosling. It’s totally silly, I know, but I thought it would be a fun experiment.

The Setup
First, I needed to figure out how I was going to compare them. Box office numbers? Nah, too easy. Number of awards? Boring. I wanted something more… creative.
So, I decided to go with a totally subjective and completely made-up metric: “Overall Ryan-ness.” It’s a combination of charisma, humor, acting chops, and just that general “it” factor.
The Experiment (aka My Deep Dive)
I spent, I kid you not, an entire afternoon on this. I started by watching some of their most iconic movies. For Reynolds, I rewatched Deadpool (obviously), Free Guy, and The Proposal. Classic Ryan Reynolds stuff.
Then, for Gosling, it was La La Land, Drive, and The Notebook. Completely different vibes, right? That’s what made it so interesting. I felt that I watched so many movies about them that I can tell what they’re going to say next.
The Results
- Charisma: Both score high, but Reynolds’ quick wit gives him a slight edge.
- Humor: Reynolds, hands down. The guy is a walking, talking meme.
- Acting Chops: Gosling takes this one. He’s got that brooding intensity down.
- “It” Factor: This is the toughest one. Both have it in spades, but in different ways.
I tried to be all scientific about it, making notes and everything. It was a pretty close call, But in the end, I concluded there’s no real winner.
Honestly, the whole thing was a bit ridiculous, but it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. It reminded me how much I enjoy both of these actors, even if their “Ryan-ness” is totally different. They are all great, and it’s joyful to watch their shows.
