Alright folks, buckle up! Today I’m gonna walk you through a blast from the past – my fashion project from way back in 2007. Yeah, you heard right, 2007! It was a wild time, fashion-wise, and I decided to dive headfirst into trying to capture it all in a, well, let’s just say “unique” way.

So, it all started with me being totally bored one summer. I had this old digital camera – one of those chunky ones with like, 5 megapixels – and a burning desire to “document the trends.” My initial thought was simple: snap pictures of people on the street who looked like they were “doing fashion right.” Easy peasy, right?
Wrong.
First, I had to actually leave the house. That was hurdle number one. Then, I had to overcome my crippling fear of asking strangers if I could take their picture. I started small, targeting people who looked friendly, or who had a really obvious “look.” Think chunky belts, graphic tees, and maybe some questionable hair choices (it was 2007, remember!).
The process went something like this:
- Spot someone who looked the part.
- Work up the courage to approach them.
- Stutter out something about “a fashion project” and “could I take your picture?”
- Endure their confused (and sometimes suspicious) stares.
- Snap a blurry, awkwardly-angled photo.
- Run away as fast as possible.
It wasn’t pretty, but I was getting content! After a few weeks of this, I had a folder full of grainy images of people rocking (or maybe not rocking) the trends of the time. But that wasn’t enough. I wanted to analyze the fashion. I wanted to understand it.

So, I fired up my ancient computer and started writing. I described each outfit in detail, pointing out the key elements: the colors, the fabrics, the accessories. I tried to identify recurring themes and patterns. I even attempted to predict future trends based on what I was seeing.
Let me tell you, some of my observations were… questionable. I distinctly remember writing a paragraph about how “layered tank tops were the future of menswear.” Yeah, that never happened. But hey, I was trying!
After weeks of shooting, writing, and general obsessing, I had a document that I proudly titled “Fashion in 2007: A Street-Level Analysis.” It was long, rambling, and full of typos, but it was mine. And honestly, looking back on it now, it’s hilarious. It’s a time capsule of a very specific moment in fashion history, seen through the eyes of a slightly awkward teenager with a bad camera and even worse analytical skills.
What I Learned
Okay, so the project itself wasn’t exactly a masterpiece, but it taught me a few things:

- Approaching strangers is terrifying, but sometimes worth it.
- Fashion is subjective, but patterns do emerge if you look closely.
- I’m not a fashion forecaster, and that’s okay.
- Old digital cameras take awful pictures.
But most importantly, it taught me that it’s okay to be passionate about something, even if you’re not very good at it. The important thing is to try, to learn, and to have a little fun along the way.
So, there you have it. My fashion project from 2007. A bit embarrassing, a bit cringe-worthy, but also a reminder of a simpler time. And hey, maybe I’ll dig up those old photos and share them sometime. Just be warned, there’s a lot of questionable fashion choices involved!
