Okay, let’s talk about this 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500. This thing, it’s a beast. A real classic. I’ve always dreamed of getting my hands on one, and a few months back, I finally did.

It all started with a random online search. You know, just browsing, not really expecting anything. Then, there it was. A listing for a ’67 Shelby GT500, not too far from me. The pictures looked decent, but you never really know until you see it in person, right?

So, I contacted the seller, a real nice guy, and scheduled a visit. I went there, and there she was. A bit rough around the edges, some rust here and there, the interior had seen better days, but the engine, oh boy, that V8 rumble was music to my ears.

We talked price, did some haggling. I tried to play it cool, but inside, I was jumping with joy. Eventually, we settled, and she was mine. I arranged to have her towed back to my place, I just couldn’t risk driving her in that condition.

Once she was home, the real work began. First, I gave her a good cleaning, inside and out. You wouldn’t believe the amount of dirt and grime that came off. It was like uncovering a hidden treasure.

Next, I started tackling the mechanical stuff. Changed the oil, the filters, the spark plugs, you know, the basic stuff. Then I moved on to the bigger things. The brakes needed work, so I replaced the pads and rotors. The suspension was shot, so I replaced the shocks and springs. Every time I replaced a part I was a little excited.

The bodywork was a whole other story. I spent days sanding down rust spots, filling in dents, and prepping the surface for paint. It was tedious, but seeing the body slowly transform was incredibly satisfying.

I decided to stick with the original color, a classic dark moss green. I found a local shop that specialized in classic car restoration and had them do the paint job. They did an amazing job, and she looked stunning.

Interior Restoration

  • Seats: The original seats were torn and faded. I found a company that reproduced the original upholstery and had them reupholstered. They look brand new now.
  • Dashboard: The dashboard was cracked and faded. I managed to find a replacement in good condition and installed it myself.
  • Carpet: The old carpet was, well, let’s just say it was beyond saving. I ordered a new carpet kit and installed it. It made a huge difference.
  • Steering Wheel: The steering wheel was worn out, I ordered a new one and replaced it.

It took months of hard work, a lot of sweat, and a decent chunk of change, but finally, she was done. Taking her out for that first drive was an unforgettable experience. The roar of the engine, the wind in my hair, the admiring glances from other drivers, it was all worth it. That feeling of driving this classic car is so great, I can’t tell you enough.

This 1967 Mustang Shelby GT500, she’s more than just a car to me. She’s a dream realized, a testament to hard work and perseverance. And I’m damn proud to be her owner. Every time I look at her, I have a big smile on my face.
