So, I got this wild hair the other day – a total whim, really. I decided I wanted to try and channel Jackie Kennedy’s style for a week. Why? I don’t know, seemed like a fun challenge! I mean, she’s iconic, right? But could I pull it off? That was the question.
First things first, I hit the internet hard. I was scrolling through images, saving anything that screamed “Jackie O.” I’m talking pillbox hats, A-line dresses, those oversized sunglasses – the whole nine yards. I needed a game plan.
Next came the dreaded part: shopping. My current wardrobe? Let’s just say it’s more “comfortably casual” than “Camelot chic.” I went to the thrift store first, hoping to score some vintage gems. I did find a couple of cute dresses that had a vaguely ’60s vibe. One was a simple navy blue A-line, and the other was a green shift dress. Not perfect, but definitely a start.
After that, it was off to the mall. I was on the hunt for those key Jackie O pieces. The sunglasses were easy – found a great pair at H&M. But the pillbox hat? That was a struggle. I ended up ordering one online, hoping it would arrive in time. I also picked up a string of faux pearls and some white gloves – because you can’t be Jackie without those, am I right?
The first day was…interesting. I wore the navy blue dress, the pearls, the sunglasses, and did my hair in a sort of bouffant-ish style. I felt ridiculously overdressed just going to the grocery store. I definitely got some stares!
Throughout the week, I experimented with different looks. The green shift dress was a bit more casual, so I paired it with flats instead of heels. I tried different hairstyles, some more successful than others. The pillbox hat finally arrived, and I wore it to a lunch meeting. I felt so fancy, but also kind of silly.
Honestly, it was harder than I thought! Jackie Kennedy’s style looks effortless, but it takes a lot of effort to achieve. Plus, it’s not exactly practical for everyday life. I definitely gained a new appreciation for her sense of style, and for the dedication it must have taken to maintain that image.
Would I do it again? Maybe, but next time I’ll start planning a little further in advance. And maybe I’ll invest in a really good tailor – those dresses need to fit perfectly to get the Jackie O look just right.
